Why did I choose my major?

During my childhood, I only thought in play games with my classmates, much less chose a proffesion, I had several dental check-ups, so the dental instruments started to attract my attention and I seriously thought about choosing chose dentistry to study in college.

During my time in school, I began to like the scientific subjects, among them, mathematics and chemistry, the best grades I had, even competing in some Olympics of other schools. I was in several scientific workshops and I liked the laboratory.

After graduating from high school, I entered the university to study dentistry (not in Universidad de Chile :-/), however, several factors did not allow me to continue, mainly because of the high cost, the worsening of working conditions and the oversaturation of dental students nationwide, changing my plans and therefore choosing another career.
For those reasons I chose chemistry, although I don’t necessarily intend to work in Chile, I wish I could travel to different parts of the world, something I could never do when I was a minor.

At the moment, I have not had the best experience for the pandemic (obviously), chemistry is a career that requires many hours of laboratory work and experience is lost if it cannot be done.

I hope someday I can say goodbye to Latin America (temporally)  to be able to develop scientific experiments, reseach and disseminate the chemical sciences

Thanks for reading :-)

I leave you with a photo of the laboratory

  1. Checked. Scientific research requires hours and hours spent at the lab, I agree completely
